LOCATION
BROOME, WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Broome is a beach resort town in Western Australia’s Kimberley region. Situated along the Indian Ocean coastline, the white sands of 22km-long Cable Beach offer a dramatic backdrop for sunset camel rides. Popular with tourists, dinosaur tracks are revealed in the beach’s red rocks during low tide, nearby at Gantheaume Point.
Despite the pristine and natural beauty of Broome, it is the rugged and remote pastoral regions of the Kimberley from which ScrubArt was born.
The Kimberley is home to over 90 pastoral stations, averaging 230,000ha in size. The remote region, over 424,000 square kilometres in size, has fewer people per square kilometre than almost any other place on Earth.
Yeeda Station settled in 1881, with the current owners Jack and Vicki Burton acquiring the property in 1999. It was first stocked with sheep then converted to cattle a few years later, which were more suited to the environment.
Yeeda encompasses the Fitzroy River mouth and vast coastal floodplains. The Yeeda floodplains are a convergence of several stock routes where cattle from the inland Kimberley were staged and either travelled south on the De Grey stock route or north into the Derby meatworks. Yeeda’s history is filled with stories of hardship due to floods, droughts and isolation.
It is the strong relationship with Yeeda Pastoral Company and Yeeda owned Kimberley Meat Company, the nearby processing facility, that ensures we can deliver skulls of the highest quality, now and into the future.
